Evening,

As mentioned in a previous post I've decided to go down the path of the Format Hitech filter brand - slowly but surely all of the bits and bobs are finally being delivered. Of course when using Square ND systems combined with a screw in circular Polariser would mean that I'd need a screw in adapter for the front of my filter holder (to allow independent rotation of Polariser without impacting the square ND filters).... still with me ?

My main wide lens used is the Samyang 12mm (for Fuji) which has a 67mm thread - this evening I've just noted that Format Hitech don't seem to do an adapter ring for 67mm size .....

Thoughts, suggestions very much appreciated ..

regards,

Nigel

Which size system are you investing in? Looks like the polariser rings they do is 77mm for 67mm or 95mm for 85mm - I guess because anything smaller will be visible in the frame? Maybe drop Formatt Hitech an email. You'll probably need to invest in a larger polariser and ring, as appropriate to the system you are using.

Or are you referring to the adapter ring for the filter holder? Looks like you need the 100mm system for 67mm adapter rings to be available?

So yes, a back and forward with FH .... turns out I wasn't understanding the whole picture ... For front ring adapters the smallest they do is 105mm ... which despite being bigger than my lens ring would work fine (i.e. polarise bigger than the lens). Of course a 105mm CP (compared to a 67mm for example) is triple the cost .. Firecrest + front adapter ring would push me north of £200 ... the none Firecrest model would be about £150. I guess the benefit to the 105 is that irrespective of lens being used (currently Samyang 12mm but could in future be 10-24 for example) the CP will still work fine and dandy ...

Ouch on the credit card tho ....

It's a case of biting the bullet and getting a 105mm. I've got a Heliopan model which is pretty good, not sure on current pricing, but it was certainly less than £150.

A 105mm polariser will be much easier to rotate than a smaller one between lens and square filter holder. Otherwise, I've used the Lee square polariser with good results-most of the time 90 degree rotations are perfectly fine, just look through the polariser off the camera, rotate by 90 degrees until you get the desired effect and slot it into the holder.

Have to agree with J.D. in the post above. I use one of the Lee 105mm polarisers in their holder and it is really easy to rotate.
