In an attempt to prolong the life of my iMac, I've decided to add a SSD.

I'm retaining the HDD for storage. My question is, aside from using the SSD for OS & applications, do most people also use it for LR catalogue and as scratch disk?

Thanks.

I have put in a Samsung 850 Evo 500gb SSD in my IMac and it is mainly for Mac OS, light room and office applications, which I use frequently. The loading times have become much shorter since the upgrade.

depends on the size, I had a twin drive set up in my old MacBook Pro and used to keep my libraries on the hdd, therefore the ssd didn't need to be huge, after all you don't want to be changing it too often in an iMac

Ive done the same - the SSD upgrade is the most noticeable upgrade ive ever made to any IT

I run a pair of SSDs in my Studio Mac Pro, one for OS/Apps and one as a scratch disk, makes such a difference.

there's a crucial 256gb offer on hot deals UK if it's of any interest

I upgraded my mac pro with 500 gb samsung and i keep only the os and programs on it.
I use other hdd drives for the rest.
The machine seems to work much faster now.
The one of the best way of upgrading an older system.

agree with above, few work colleagues have put ssds in their PCs and all are surprised by the improvement in performance

Thanks for chipping in guys, but from what I've read, it does little for LR or PS unfortunately :-/

Great for speeding up startup time, opening program etc., but RAM & processor are the two things that'll make real difference to anything done in these two programs.
