Took a drive over Exmoor today and Spring is most certainly in the air, lost count of the buzzards flying around mostly in pairs too, kestrels a plenty, field fare in good numbers, starlings in good numbers too which makes me think they starting to migrate back and passing from somerset? Best sighting for me was skylarks, they were singing really well up higher on exmoor even had one come land next to car while we had our lunch seemed very inquisitive considering they normally heard but not seen (well for me anyway), it was more like Noah and the ark lol with so many pairs of birds travelling around

You have to 'get your eye in' for skylarks. They're so well camouflaged when they're not on the wing. I managed to photograph one years ago (on film - crap photo) on a tor on Dartmoor and eveyone who saw the photo said - and why did you take this picture of a bit of rock.........? Once you've spotted the first couple you get tuned to them. It's nice to see kestrels as they're not as common as they were. Do you think their numbers are increasing again? I certainly seem to see more than I did a few years back.

Hi Jan I think they are on the up again not massively but I'm seeing more, either that or I'm just more in tune to them and looking harder? Buzzards definitely seem to be thriving up here in North Devon this past week in the good weather I've noticed loads souring in thermals and against the wind today but that might be more to do with the approaching nesting too

See a stack of 4 buzzards fairly often when playing golf as well as a couple (as in 2 separate, not necessarily a pair!) of kestrels over/beside the course. Not seen any baby bunnies yet this year - ma be a week or 2 early yet. Saw a few butterflies on our walk to/from lunch today and there are plenty of bumble bees about already. Home is Exeter, golf is Exminster and lunchtime walk was up the Otter!
