I've only had my d7200 about 6 weeks and today discovered a black spot in my view finder I haven't changed the lens for over 4 weeks if I take the lens off I can see the spot inside the camera but can't see them on my photographs does anyone know the best place to get this fixed

Thanks Simon 20151004_145542.jpg

It would be a lot more revealing if you take a picture of a properly lit white surface
where focus is irrelevant but the exposure is and post a jpg of 1000 + pixels.

Annoying isn't it, I've got one in my D7200's viewfinder at the top ... on mine it is definitely in the viewfinder, I haven't tried to shift it as like yours it doesn't show on any images. I might try a blow-out at some stage but I'm doubtful it will shift :(

Looks like a bit of dust or a small particle probably on the focus screen. I wouldn't go touching the focus screen in case you damage the focus screen. Another place would be on the mirror. Probably best to get it cleaned professionally if it's annoying you, or just leave it and dont worry about it.

IMVHO this would be pretty much pointless as the camera may even come back in a worse condition and even if it does come back clean I don't know how long it'll stay that way. I'm afraid specs in the OVF are just pretty much inevitable with SLR's and DSLR's.

Blowing the mirror box / focus screen area out with a rocket blower may get rid of it, maybe not... it may even add to the specs. Cleaning the focus screen or mirror may shift the spot but it could be on the inside of the focus screen and the screens in some cameras aren't removable. I used to take the screen out of my 5D and wash it now and again but doing so was easy with that camera. Be aware that focus screens are easily marked so proceed with caution.

When I had DSLR's I hated specs in the VF and I much preferred contamination on the sensor to contamination in the OVF or on the focus screen as it was much easier to deal with.

All in all unless there is major crap visible through the VF I'd say just try to live with it as if you do persist and try to clean a spot away the chances are that you'll make it worse or have another pretty soon.

Giottos rocket blower will sort that nine times out of ten. But be careful not to touch the focusing screen as the surface is very delicate.

Hold the camera upside down if you can, to at least encourage any dirt to fall out, but don't be surprised if it returns. A bit of dust etc is a way of life with DSLRs, but anything not on the sensor is harmless to images.

Even if you never take the lens off, dust gets sucked in when the lens barrel extends when zooming.

Take the lens of the camera and wipe the spot of the underside of the pentaprism /focus screen with a soft tissue. Like I have been doing for the last 40yrs! (y)

Well took the Rocket Blower to mine this evening and the spot has gone :)
