So simple question really:

Do you sports (football/Rugby) photographers use 3D Tracking?

I've shot 3 football games now and im getting a keeper rate of around 30%. Im loosing most of my shots just because they have either missed focus or are just totally out of focus.

Ive currently got my D90 set to back button focusing, AF-C Dynamic but im wondering if i should change from Dynamic to 3D tracking?

The D90 has 9 focus points. Does anyone have any experience with 3D Tracking and football or rugby shots?

Thanks in advance

I can't comment specifically on football or rugby, but for fast moving sports I always used single point AF on my D90 as I normally shoot with specific framing in mind. I found the 3D Tracking fairly useless for anything remotely fast or intense, and Dynamic no better.

Thanks for the replies.
Why do you use single point over dynamic?

I'm going to try single point next time im out but just wondering why ..

Thanks

i have used 21point shooting with 3d tracking for my child's school football with nikon d300 and i hardly missed any shots.I used continuous mode.

D90 only has 11 points so i think thats where the D90 will strugle

dont be sorry, we are all learning all the time, the d300 af system is very good and the 51pt 3d is amazing and i use it for fast birds in flight.
But it does get it wrong with busy backrounds.
single point for sports is great as you just point it at what you want in focus and it focuses it can get it wrong,, only user error.
