Spiked feet.....any ideas why Gitzo decided to introduce non-removeable spiked feet onto their systematic range, including the travel models like the 4552TS which people might like to carry as hand luggage (else why buy a compact tripod?). On paper, other than being perhaps slightly too short, it looks the ideal travel tripod for heavy-weight kit. No more arriving on location to find your suitcase missing and your support gone. Has anyone had any experience of over-zealous airport security disallowing a tripod as it has spiked feet. The options would seem to be limited – file down the spike so it can’t be classed as dangerous, or superglue the rubber feet in place for all eternity. Both of which immediately halve the resale value of a 700 quid tripod...

You can carry a tripod in hand luggage, no problem.

Anything with a spike is a no.. though.

As for allen keys.. the signs clearly state no tools in hand luggage at any airport..
