Hello people.
Is there any way of turning off the autocorrect function which is active during posting?

Most of my swear words are being changed to benign nouns.

If it's the forum software that's been set to do the changes, probably not. There are ways around the censor but not recommended since it winds one of the owners up!!!

Why would you want to xmas swear on this elephant forum?

No, because it's there to do exactly what it's doing. Although it may be possible to game the system, that's considered bad form and we would ask you not to do that.

I think that site admins and mods have a simple choice when people deliberately flout the rules, either remove the posts or remove the guy with the post-knocker who planted the posts . . .posts removed.jpg

Ok, the swear word thing was light hearted humour. Which failed miserably.

My point is, the program appears to modify words that are not, for instance, spelt in American.
Or for that matter, feels are not grammatically correct or in context.

I have no intention of swearing but I'd like what I type to be displayed verbatim.

It would be good if it was set to remove spuriou’s apostrophe’s.

Did you mean like colour/color?

That sort of thing.
As for apostrophe's, commas and exclamation marks, I'm good with randomly throwing those into the conversation. I just don't want the software to change them if you know what I mean?!@£$

I think the forum software only changes swearwords, which is why we didn't get the joke. It's more likely that there's a spill chucker in the software you're using to post.

I used to admin a forum, and set up the swear filter, not with asterisks but with alternatives. The C word became honourable gentleman, the F word became engage in intimate activity and there were a few others, including translating Mr Webster's version into English. Some people thought it was funny, but others got upset, and a couple said that their version of spelling was correct, which was a bit concerning :)

It didn't fail completely. I assumed that it was tongue in cheek hence my reply
We must have a similar sense of humour, either that or we are both a couple of televisions.

I used to be an admin on an F1 forum and set it to convert Ferrari to cheating scarlet b**t**ds and Schumacher to Cobbler...

IIRC, none of the authenticated Shakespeare signatures are spelled the same.
