I need a back up battery for my canon 5d MK3. As it is just a back up i'm not too bothered about it being a genuine canon one but would like to buy on recommendation. The battery needs to be able to be charged in the canon charger or come with a compatible charger. Suggestions grateful.

Thanks Jo

Ebay is your friend. I've loads of third party batteries for 7D/5DMKII and 1D MKIV. Never had an issue with any of them. Make sure you get the de-coded ones tho then the battery meter in your camera will show the level.

My suggestion is another Canon LP-E6 :)

I'd normally go for that - buy cheap buy twice and all that but because my battery only rarely runs out before I charge it and I literally only need it to cover my back next weekend as I'm second shooting at a wedding, £60 is quite steep.

I've had a look at these, but I've heard rumours about them not charging in a canon charger. Will a decoded one charge in the canon charger do you think?

Thanks both

All mine do.

7dayshop. I've had loads of their batteries over the years, never let me down.

I read recently that a recent firmware update for a(all?) Canon cameras prevents use of third party batteries. True?

I had trouble with the canon 70d charger charging my duracel lpe6 batteries cured the issue with a cheap ebay charger, the 7d charger I had before had no such problems with these batteries

ex pro do good ones for sony, think they do other ones.
amazon reviews are handy for things like these

I have been using two Duracell DR9943 batteries in my Canon 5D2 without any problems. They charge in the Canon Battery Charger and display the remaining charge on the camera. These batteries are available from Curry's in store or online at £24.99p. It does appear that recently introduced Cameras have problems with third party batteries or after a firmware update, Nikon have been playing this game too.
