Hi,

I've had a quick search thru old threads on here & see you've touched on this topic before.

I shoot on TV sets & NEED to silence my camera. I can't see anywhere in the UK to buy OR hire a sound blimp (other than Calumet have one for a Nikon). I may have to resort to the tutorials online & make one?

Anyone know anywhere in the UK (preferably London) where u can buy/hire one for a Canon 50D??

I've tried silent shooting, it is the same volume in 1 or 2 as when it is disabled, it's loud in every variation lol. Don't see the point of that setting :thinking:

I have a nice quiet L series lens, so it's a good start. Think I may have to make the sound blimp from the tutorials with a Peli case! :sulk:
 
I thought the way to do it these days was in quiet-shot/live-view mode as it's the mirror that does most of the clunking. Then move back with a longer lens away from the mikes.

If not, then it's probably DIY blimp time. Bear in mind that tea-cosy jobs merely muffle the sound and you need a bit of mass and weight to kill the sound, like Dynamat. Very cumbersome - tripod only I would have thought :(
 
I can't often move far enuff away because they film in tiny indoor locations. I might try the live view/"silent" mode thing next time? Altho I'm not a live view fan as I move around a lot & need to shoot quite fast.

Better get creative & make a blimp unless anyone knows where to buy one!?
 
the 1 series does a silent mode where it dissasociates shutter and mirror so it makes a longer quieter noise in normal shooting not live view

my 1d3 does it
 
hmmm. I don't know about Canon ;) but my Nikon D5000 has a quiet shooting mode. It definitely makes a difference - tried it on wild birds and they don't notice it when on quiet. BUT - you can't do motor drive, only single frame advance. :/
 
my job is a pain in the a*s equipment wise lol, but I love it!
