Hi all, our tv speakers are suffering and volume level and sound quality appear to be getting awful. Anyone out there purchased a sound bar and are happy with the performance they give? Had a look in my local asda, but there push button to work display was not working at all, apart from an Lg model at £75 which seemed quite good.

Not looking too expensive as just had a cooker die on me.

Thanks in advance.

I looked at the LG one too,
because of the price,
but I think you may be disappointed,
unless you get one with a sub woofer, either wired of blue tooth.
(Which is the one I ended up with after a trip to Curry's for a quick demo

This subject has been discussed at length quit recently too.
Hopefully this should answer most of your questions.

Sony CT60BT which you can pick up for £79.99, seriously excellent sound for pound, nice compact sub that still manages to give a good kick.

remote is a little fiddly for eg it's one button to switch between stereo/simulated surround(which is actually not bad) but then you keep same button pressed to activate night mode.. you get used to it and the bar has 4 little red lights which with different combinations display which mode you are in..

niggle aside sound quality it punches well above its weight.

Thanks all. Shall take a look at the other thread and have a look at the others mentioned.

Just had a look at the other thread and chose the same as Cobra which is one I had already had an eye on plus it's the same brand as my TV and blu ray. Cheapest I found was from pixmania at just under £140 delivered.

I havent got a soundbar... but I have got a panasonic blu-ray surround sound system :woot:. A friend of my dads has a bar and my system makes his bar look like a speaker from a mobile phone ;)

A few months on, and I'm still very happy with my choice

hope all goes well, have had 2 bad experiences with Pixmania one of them was an absolute nightmare; I am sure plenty of satisfied customers though.

3rd time, first was a bridge camera about 9 years ago then a 5.1 surround system around 5 years ago and no issues with either.

Yes it does. It means get a proper surround sound system (home theater) rather than a sound bar ;)

We are not all as rich as you :p

TBH there are sound bars and sound bars ;)
Besides I didn't want wires everywhere, after re-decorating,
and didn't want the expense of a Bluetooth system.

A Sound bar suits me perfectly, and is certainly as good as the Sony 5.1 system that it replaced

I have the same sound bar as Cobra, good sound, neat and well worth the £150 or so price tag. Chances are it will be cheaper in the sales and Currys are doing a black friday thing this weekend as well.

If you have a cold and someone says you look like s*it, it doesn't mean you actually do... Same thing. I'm guessing you don't understand banter.

yes I do understand banter Mike, what I do not understand is how 5 little speakers and a sub can make a soundbar look like a mobile phone speaker; that aside I would have thought sound quality should be the main concern.

I bought a Yamaha soundbar soon after getting a Samsung smart TV because the TV's own speakers sounded a bit thin. The old TV had an analogue stereo pair of outputs that were connected to a 5.1 amp and speakers (just the 5, no sub) and while that did sound marginally better, it's only noticeable at higher volumes and a few films (Saving Private Ryan being the most effective through the 5 speakers). The space we've won by putting the old amp and speakers up in the loft is very handy!

Ahh I see, sorry. Because of the gurt sub ;) And the sound coming from all for corners of the room. Different sounds coming from all around you.

I don't think iut was that expensive, about £230 and its about for years old. It has an iPod dock so it doubles as our hi-fi too. Also because the sky goods through it we can use out for digital radio. Tbh we had a poroblkem with it that we go it repaired but when it does need replacing I'd go for Samsung as Panasonic DVD/blu-ray don't seem to last in my experience :(
