Hi guys

I see that that Nikon have a second generation VR/AFS version of their 70-300 lens. Very tempted with this as a replacement to my old non VR, non AFS 70-300. But.......I'll be wanting to get the 80-400 VR/AFS but no one out there can give me any hint as to when it'll finally arrive.

Sooooo, my question. Does the rather obvious range overlap of these two lenses make it a complete waste of time and money to end up having both? Or is the 70-300 good enough to make it worth having both?

Now is a really bad time to considering buying an 80-400 VR and there is a very good reason why the current version is in short supply.

In about 8 weeks you should see them become readily available on the used market.

The 70-300VR is quite good, but if you need 400mm you won't be able to get that with a 70-300 VR and maintain acceptable IQ with teleconverters.

If you need 400mm, don't buy a 300mm lens. But don't buy the current version of the 80-400 VR right now either.

Thankyou for the nod Mr Duck :D
