Hi y'all, (sorry...from southern US...been in UK for 4 years but old habits die hard!)

I'm just about to take the dive into the dSLR world, having worked my way through a couple of point-and-shoots. I know the basics of the old film world from doing some things as a kid and helping my dad with everything from shooting to darkroom work, but that's been a long time ago.

My most recent p&s is a Fujifilm F810, which I've enjoyed for its manual controls, video abilities, and generally good results. But I've been increasingly frustrated by a lack of depth-of-field control and the need to use a flash for nearly anything indoors. So moving to dSLR seems like the right thing, or at least good for some fun!

I don't do anything very fancy or artistic, but I do like to get good shots of my toddler and newborn, along with anything else that attracts my interest.

I'm in the process of trying to acquire a good used Canon 20D, which seems like a good fit to my personality. I thought I'd start with the 50mm f/1.8 as something good, inexpensive, and will hopefully teach me some things about composition as I maneuver around with it.

Anyway, just thought I'd say hi! Looks to be a great forum and I hope to be something of a regular. Feel free to chime in with advice and opinions as I get going!
