I have sony vaio sve171c11m and last night the hard drive failed , i have tried everything to get it running but to no avail,the system was runing win8 which i hated so i am not to bothered about going back to win 7,any help on best going about this would be apreciated as i believe it would mean purchasing a win7 os and a new hard drive and then finding all the drivers for my system,any help or advice would be apreciated .Thanks

I have not done this for a long time but sony used to supply recovery disks and all you did was insert the disk and off it went. how old is this pc
 
dennis i've got a sony vaio 1520 and when my hard drive went i found there was a certain key that enabled you to test your hard drive - it may have been the fn key. bottom left of keypad, but not exactly sure. i did end up getting a new hard drive 250gb from microdirect in m/c for about £45
 
PC is just under 12 months old,thanks neil for the start8 option ,not sure about doing the 8.1 and boot to desktop,computersot my strong point ,but thanks all for the quick response .
