Just passing on a little warning if you have any of the Sony SLT type cameras. With the new translucent mirror. Don't try to clean this with any type of sensor cleaner. It is not glass but a very delicate plastics. I learnt the hard way. Although very easy to replace this mirror will set you back £80 for the replacement :(

D you know how it's meant to be cleaned then? I have a spot on the sensor that's driving me nuts.

Rocket blower is the only way I think.

This is another good reason to stick with wider apertures. You never get bothered by dust bunnies :)

That's a good question. If its on the mirror I too have heard that a rocket blower does the trick and I had heard a very very soft artist brush. But I ain't to sure about the brush method. As the mirror is plastic it scratches very easily. I'm personal scared to even look at the bloody thing considering. How much the replacement is :)

If its on the sensor, you flip the mirror up (with the camera in cleaning mode) and use a blower or swabs, the same as any other camera. I did my a99 just yesterday.

For the mirror its a blower or very soft brush only. I've had 3 SLT's over the last 2 years and I've never had to do more than give it a puff every now and then. The chances of mirror dust showing in the picture are fairly slim anyway.

A replacement mirror is about £75 or so, IIRC, so its not the end of the world if you damage it.

I tried cleaning mine recently but it started to flex, so I stopped!

Gary Friedmans book on A65/A77 does say it can be cleaned with 'care'!

As previously said, I think anything on the mirror is quite unlikely to show up in an image.

Unless it does show up in a shot maybe it's best to let sleeping dogs lie.

Dirt on the mirror won't show as a spot but will if allowed to become really dirty reduce contrast.

If the mirror gets as damaged as mine did due to the sensor cleaning solution it was pretty impossible for the camera to auto focus most of the time. . The fluid basically left lots of run marks on the mirror which had damaged the surface of the plastic material. Still lesson learned now. All is good with the new mirror fitted. £80 is a bit pricey for what it is

I can certainly see a spot on my sensor and it shows in images but using my rocket lower it will not budge. :(

Plenty of sensor cleaning advice on the forum (and YouTube etc). I use a SensorKlear from LensPen after a wet clean smeared oil over my D200's sensor. There are reports of Arctic Butterflies doing the same and needing to be washed too - they're great for shifting dust but oil's a whole new ball game!

Cleaning the sensor it's self isn't a problem using the usuall swab and cleaning fluid kits I've done this several times. Just avoid touching the flip up mirror. As the fluid will damage the plastic material it's made from
