Hi Everyone,

I've been looking at both cameras and the Panasonic lx100 ii get glowing reviews about its image quality. I just can't decide what one and I was wondering what people think?

I'm after a small compact travel camera that has good optical zoom and a diverse camera that can take photos in low light. I might be asking for too much!

Thanks

For me, it's mostly a toss-up between the amazing feature-set in a very compact body of the Sony, at a price, versus the M43 sensor and dedicated controls on the larger Panasonic. So it may be a question of how compact you need it to be. The Sony will fit in a jacket pocket, the Panasonic not so easily. But the Panasonic has aperture adjustment on the lens barrel, shutter speed and exposure compensation dials and a second dial on the lens which is configurable - I set it for ISO. It's what they call a "photographer's camera" (!).I'd expect image quality to be on a par. The Sony has greater zoom range and a built-in flash.

For ME, the extra zoom capability of the Sony would make it my first choice. Your priorities might be different!

My wife has a version of the Sony and I have a version of the LX100ii. The IQ on the Panasonic is excellent and the controls are easy too. The zoom on the Sony is also excellent. As Nod says, it depends on your priorities; you might also like one in the hand better. Maybe see if you can try them.

The tilting screen of the Sony might sway it for me.

I took the Panny to New York and other city breaks and it was outstanding. It will fit in a big pocket but you are aware how heavy it is. It’s a solid camera. I dropped it onto the street in Gdańsk and it just absorbed the impact. I would prefer a tilting screen but I managed at floor level on occasion. The clip on flash is small enough to carry also. I’ve not even held the Sony so I can’t comment.
This whole album was taken with the Panny. (apologies for the family snaps)
