I just received delivery of my new camera :)

Any requests to help test it out?

Some of us are ok. How about taking some general shots and posting the jpegs online to start with. That way you can comment on AF performance, general handling, speed of menus etc.

Have you got any manual lenses to try on it? Try it out for high ISO and some base ISO shots. Quite interested in this camera to replace my NEX5.

As with any camera, I'm most interested in seeing how it performs at higher ISO levels. 1600, 3200, 6400 especially

Sorry, was in a silly mood.

How about some portrait shots? Getting the skin colour right can be difficult for some cameras.

I have a bit of an interesting one, well, interesting to me anyway :D

One area in which my current G1 lets me down is in night time photography. Not just in town night time shooting as in town it can actually be quite light, I mean out of town night time shooting when you'd need a long exposure.

I have two current problems...

Firstly my EVF seems to have little DR at the black end and it just blacks out completely and fails to show things that are still clearly visible by eye.

Secondly in low light my G1's EVF kicks out quite a bit of light and it acts like a torch shining directly into my eye, you can see a little and quite bright square of light if you point it at any surface.

So, I'd be interested to hear if the Nex 6's EVF has enough DR to be usable at night and if its light output is low enough as to not act like a little torch. I don't expect you to go trecking out into the countryside at night :D as you can check these things indoors (and away from street and shop lights etc.) at night with the light off :D

These things are never mentioned in any reviews I've read.

From owning the NEX-5 and testing out the other models bar the 6, im going to say low light performance is going to be good. Im now more looking at how well they do at video. Still not impressed with movie control overall.

Would like to see some feedback on what control you have on this.

Well done for apologising, first time I've seen it on here.

Is this your first Nex? Would be interesting to know how fast the AF is compared to older models. Compared to micro four thirds cameras (and dslrs obviously) the Nex can be a bit slow (or at least my Nex 5 is).

Yes it's my first mirrorless camera. Ive got the D90 too. Will eventually try everything between work and home stuff when I can so please bear with me. I like a challenge list to work with. Hopefully try some low light shots tonight.

This has what it's got to compete with

Wow wasn't expecting it yet. I've not seen many test shots. I'm curious about the kit lens i've seen a few shots and it looks very good, a lot better than the old one. I would like to see just a sample at different focal lengths and apertures.

A few for now taken pretty quickly handheld manually in a mixture of low and bright light, settings are in filename and the metadata

You don't need advice on composition then!

Any chance of you stepping into a dark room and checking out my concerns as stated above about the EVF?

No glare at all into my eye off the EVF very rasy to read settings. although its a bit noisy in the pitch black room. it still picks up DR ok from the street light round the corner. But nothing in the shadows. Sure if there's moonlight it would help but pretty foggy outside. I need to do a DR test and will let you know in time the results.

Great stuff, thanks.

I have to buy most of my gear on line as my one local camera shop (Jessops) stocks very little, as do the local Currys. Your comment about there been nothing in the shaddows makes fear it's no better or little better than my G1 for night shooting though. Shame, as if I could find a CSC that was useable for night shooting I'd probably be willing to make a full move to CSC and sell off my 5D+stuff.

A bit of a long shot, but if you have kids can you see how well it tracks them running or riding a bike with a narrow depth of field in movie mode?

If you're uncomfortable with kids a dog might do :)

I ask because I'm looking for a camera that can do this and had considered a nex5, but no one seems to know if it would.

A Nex 5 would not (I have one) - a Nex 6 maybe, but I am sceptical (but it might).

Excellent thanks, at least I know not to get that one for sure

In relation to your earlier post, the newer NEX models have had quite a few improvements on the AF aspect. When the 5n and 7 was launched, I got a go with em and it held up really well. A lot better than my 5 did. :(

OK, I've gone thru the book manual last might, now on the handbook!
I've tried the movie a bit, but found it is very jittery when exposed ok or a bit over, slightly under exposure its ok and nice and smooth, focus is good too. I have looked at the settings of the video and have them on 50fps - not for blue ray.
Does anyone know how do I get rid of this shaky effect in normal or slightly brighter exposure?
I will get thru all the requests when I've got this sorted and any others that crop up, but dont think theres much left to sort out...thanks

Above problem resolved. As said, very little video use in past! Shutter speed was too slow. Once I upped that and the ISO more. Video was very sharp focus on moving subjects. As said i will go thru all above when I get time.

AF is quick and menus are accessed very easily, the majority of controls shooting manually can be easily with just the right hand, the flash button and the video is a bit tricky wothout using the left hand a little but nothing much to worry me about.
EVF is very good but no match to an true SLR VF

Yes I just got the Samyang fisheye 8mm, it has manual focus and aperture, very impressive lens for it price, about a foot away from the ornament

Video seems instaneously sharpo at all times, I'll try and upload one tonight, and some other photos.
The 8mm fisheye I have had a magenta colourcast on the NEX7,m but its fine on the NEX6, sharp too, 6 foot from corner, sorry was busy comparing this lens with my D90 and Tokina 10-17 over the weekend in prep for scuba diving photos

Can you drop it on the floor to see how strong it is?

Haha, well I thought it was quite funny anyway.

Ive been reading it on Wetpixel, when you gonna get it underwater?

Xmas, if I aint got a housing by then I'll be buying a EWA marine bag just for the shallows

Hi,
Just found myself very interested in this camera and wondered if you have any futher info or critique, or any photos taken ?
Thanks ,
Andy

Have just opened my christmas NEX-6 but have discovered that I cannot get the flash to ''pop up''. What am I missing here ? Any help appreciated !

The flash pop up button, although sits flush to the surface, actually goes quite deep before you can get it to pop up. Just keep pushing it in until it springs out. My brother had the same problem when he bought his, thought it was either stuck or broken. But found out it was just poorly designed :D

Thank you I had discovered the same thing myself a few hours later. I thought it was an electronic release, Duh ! Just needs a deep push to release.
Cheers,
Andy
