Sony Macro Lens Options

I would always take the OEM lens over another make .... although I have never come across a bad macro lens (and I have had many)

Had the 90mm Sony and it's very sharp (and quite heavy compared to most) ... built like a tank.

Depends what you are wanting it for exactly.
My money would go to a laowa 90mm.

What do you want to shoot?
How do you expect to shoot it?
Are you really gonna spend a lot of time learning macro?
Are you gonna shoot handheld or an a tripod?

If you are not going to put a lot of effort in go much cheaper as it may be an expensive paperweight.
For Dragonflies and butterflies try the telephotos you use for birds already.
If you want to shoot proper macro handheld using MF go Laowa btw the the AF may only be reasonable on the Sony lens.
Have you thought about lighting?

Does the camera lens offer auto stacking?

Hey

Great questions. Hadn't really thought it all through.

Shoot: Not sure yet. Probably snowflakes and flowers and spiders and stuff
How: Handheld, outdoors
Learning: Not sure yet.
Shooting: Handheld.
Lighting: No. Not something I'm looking into right now.

Laowa seems great though, thanks for putting another option in there.

The negative of the Laowa is no electronic contacts so no exif for the lens of that matters to you. No auto focus though for purely macro that's not an issue at all.

For me it's the Laowa for purely macro and the Sony of you want to do other things with it as well.

The new Laowa is on my list of lenses I want, purposely designed for mirrorless unlike the older version so it's smaller.
But the 2:1 is the killer feature.

Thanks Rob.

I think the Laowa is the one then. I don't really care about EXIF. Or autofocus.

Laowa arriving tomorrow. I'll feed back when I've had a play.

And probably seek advice about flashes...
Where did you get it from? Looking forward to seeing what you think.
