Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of advice, Recently the kit lens on my Sony A200 has started making a terrible noise everytime I turn the camera on in all modes, and turn the camera off when it is in auto focus mode.

Its a vibrating, as when i put it on a table it makes more noise than my mobile on vibrate.

Other than the noise and vibration, the lens still focuses fine in both auto and manual and the camera still appears to work fine. There is no noise or anything when i try a different lens.

So what i would like to know is:
Does anyone know what the problem is?
Can it be fixed?
Can i just plod on with the noise as long as the lens works?
or
Is this the beginning of a serious problem with a new lens on the horizion?

thanks, a Merry Christmas

we are talking about the 18-70?
it sounds like something to do with the AF gear - perhaps have a look at both the connection for the screw drive on the lens & also the screw drive on the body (we don't know if your other lenses are screw drive too or SAM/SSM).

If it's the 18-70 you should be able to pick up an as new one s/h for ~£30 or upgrade to the newer 18-55 SAM kit lens for not much more.

yeah its the 18-70.

thanks for that Scott, at that price i might just upgrade then. my other lens is a tamron 70-300
