Sony FS700

What specifically do you want to know about it? I don't personally have one but know several people with them. It's the kind of purchase that you should know everything about if you need one.

Yeah I'm doing a lot of research before shelling out.

Looking to know what the video quality is like. I'm hearing things about bitrates not being broadcast-ready, but then hearing from broadcasters themselves that they shoot on lots of cameras that aren't dubbed as "broadcast quality".

Also would like to know what the quality is like when shooting slo-mo (heard it might degrade?).

Pros / cons in general too.

In hindsight I'm probably not the best one to be answering this, I'd wait until somebody who actually does own one chimes in.

Are you needing it for broadcast?

Degrade in what way? Here's an example anyway. Sorry I'm not much use.

I watched a review on YouTube where it mentioned the quality degrading slightly, can't remember in what way though I couldn't tell on the video. Must've been noise? Which is expected, so really I'm asking what its low-light capabilities are like.

I am moving into freelance so, hopefully, yes.

I can't see the noise increasing, the shutter would obviously faster so perhaps they meant you'd have to increase the iso as a result, thus more noise? the bits per frame(is that right) (if it's still 28mbps at the slow motion modes) will be less though.

EBU r118 lists the requirements used by EBU members for cameras (BBC, ITV, CH 4 in UK, most other public broadcasters in Europe).

The Fs700 would fail because of its in built recorder.

We often use these cameras at work, not for final work but for rough shoots or web interviews etc… The biggest downside to this camera (if used in broadcast) is that the colours do not conform to broadcast standards (so colours may appear off when broadcast) we really like the slow motion capability but I suppose that is the main selling point of this camera, we also find the built in ND filters to be very useful as it means we don't have to keep buying adapters or step down rings etc. Overall its quite a fun camera to use and if being used for non broadcast such as corporate videos could easily be the main camera. But if this has the intended use of being used to film material that will be broadcast you are best going with a canon C100 or if the budget stretches even a C300.
Any other questions please go ahead and drop a PM.James
