Z7 if you want worse spec, z8 for much better. None are 60mp thought but i cant see why exactly you would need it
resolution is the main one. EVF, AF may be also a step down. For most uses they are more similar than not.Is that the Z7 mark 2? It seems near enough identical price (new and used) so other than megapixels, what else is worse if I may ask?
Z8 is a fair bit more expensive.

Z8 is another level. Video, frame rate, AF, decent body shape. If you can stretch to and want Z mount that's the one to get right now.
I'm possibly getting the sony one... for access to E mount specifically. I really want A1 though. That's my way of saying RF lenses [prices] suck and I'm sick of no 3rd party options, although I will keep Canon bodies..
If you were to go grey market, you can pick up either the Z8 or Sony A7RV way cheaper than you can in the UK.
Avoid the A7Riva now as the RV can be had for £500 more.
but that £500 more puts it squarely in the Z8 territory, or R5 II and a little extra. There is no way I'd pay THAT for a slow camera when stacked 8K options are available for similar money.I'd forgotten all about grey, so I never even considered the A7RV. Nice one. That is very tempting, especially as it's cheaper new from abroad than it is used in the UK.

the main point of A7RIV is that it is still the same super slow but high res, and high DR sensor, only at a little over £1k; not 2k+ which is insane in 2025.
I had the choice between Z8, R5ii and Sony A7RV, I went with the Z8 as it just appealed way more to me for the money.
I was lucky enough to get hands on with all 3 bodies and the Z8 felt the best to me, plus they have some very unique lenses. The 180-600 is absolutely stellar for the money.
fps is lethargic on A7R series. This can definitely have consequences outside of landscape, product / studio and architectural photography realm. Also massive rolling shutter, low video spec as a result. It is very much a one trick pony.I'm not following what you mean by super slow? Also, what about the dedicated chip for AF on the V, is that something to consider? I've been looking at the Z8 as well, but I saw a YouTube video comparing against a 6iii I think it was and the latter seemed to have far better AF?

I don't think it is fair to compare fairly low res Z6III with Z8 at all. Yes it is a generation newer, but compromises on image quality in many ways. You are better of with Zr if video features of z6III in particular appeal to you.
