Hi,

New to this forum and I am looking to get a bit wider in some of my pics.

Currently have a Sony 50F14Z Zeiss Planar which I think is great - really happy with the image quality that I get when I actually manage to get a quality image

Looking to go wider and I have seen the Batis 18mm/2.8 - really looking for recommendations for something that would be great for landscape and Astro, however I want the image quality of my existing 50mm and I don’t want to break the bank

Some help and advice is needed!

Thanks,

Paul

Looked at these but a significant price up from the Batis, is there a significant difference in quality do you know?

I paid £700 for my 20G & £725 for my 24GM - If they are good enough for Alyn Wallace, they are more than good enough for me! If you are serious about doing astro the difference between f/2.8 & f/1.4 is massive!

Edit - I had my 20G up for sale for £650 in the end recently.

No privileges on this forum for the classifieds yet did it sell?

I'm another with the Sony 20mm f1.8 and can only recommend it. Other than that if f2.8 is fast enough for you I have the 24mm f2.8 G which is tiny and very light weight.

Are you thinking of selling it at a very low price to a newbie ;)

I just sold my 'as new' 24mm GM to MPB so they might be worth a visit.
Have been looking, thanks. The problem I think I have is that the zeiss 50mm seems to give brilliant quality images, so want something that’s as optically as good for pocket money ;)

'Fraid not Paul :D I don't use the 20mm f1.8 much but it's a keeper and although the 24mm f2.8 G doesn't seem to have a lot of fans it suits me very well :D
