Sony A7riii focus struggles

Hi guys

I have the Sony a7riii and I was shooting a wedding today. During the ceremony the focus is working perfectly and as the bride turns in for the kiss the camera lost focus and was hunting and failed to find.

Luckily they had another kiss !!!

I have the focus mode in continuous (af-c) and focus area to flexible spot:s

As I’m holding the “af-on” button it’s drawing a green box around the brides face and gaining focus perfectly. It was only as she went in for the kiss it lost her face and failed to refocus.

Any ideas how I can avoid this happening again?

Just an uneducated guess as I know nowt of the camera 'settings' but the way you describe it was it using some sort of Facial Recognition (which AFAIK many do nowadays) and when turned for the kiss it lost the plot and no longer "saw" her face???

Yep, I reckon so. Sounds like I need to turn it off! Hopefully someone will have an idea who owns the A7riii

If it does turn out to be a Facial Recognition method of focusing..........you will have stick to old school and use normal(?) AF settings i.e. do not rely on such computer controlled functions.
