Review Sony A77 what you saying?

Hi F1ynn

I suggest you as this question over on the Dyxum forum where you will be bombarded with useful answers. I am about to sell my a77 (long story) but it is a genius camera. Possibly the best crop body all-rounder out there, IMHO. Keep below iso 800 and you cannot go wrong with this camera.

Regards

Gary

It depends....I love my A77.

Pluses are the SLT technology means the EVF shows you how the photo will look unlike an OVF. If the EVF is too dark then your photo will be too and vice versa.

It's fast...very fast. In fact the 10fps is useless. But it does mean if you put it in continuous high/low it's still faster than most Nikon/Canon's.

All Sony's have IBIS so that's a plus.

Downsides......

Erm battery life. You can take around 300 shots max. For a full day wedding I can use 3 batteries. I can get through a day with a single battery on my Nikon. Not a biggie. Batteries are cheap.

ISO performance. It's not great after 1600.

But when all said & done, unless you can get a substantial discount then the D7000 is significantly cheaper for virtually the same features. And if you want to stay Sony then look at the A65 which again is much cheaper and all you lose is the weather sealing, some buttons and the top LCD (which I never use cos all the info is in the EVF).

why not consider the Sony a65 very similar in design and features but a LOT Cheaper

Might be wrong but I think you only get one dial wheel on the A65? Think the front one is missing? Personally that's a deal breaker for me, I want twin (front and back) dials for manual mode.

and you'll pay a lot more for having the extra dial -I find I dont need 2 and I upgraded from an a700 which did have the 2 dials

Good luck in what ever you decide on

Hi

I just got a a77 18-130 kit. £760 from Lce Sale have to say I am very pleased with it so far
Do like the dual wheels
Very good for manual mode which I am now using a lot more

Have to say its well with the money

I'd say if you are an enthusiast then the A65 is the best value. If you are a semi-pro or above then the A77 with its extra buttons, faster shutter speed and flash sync speed are worth it's weight in gold.
