Hi all,

Please excuse the rather silly question - but how do I setup my Alpha 65 for a long exposure shot? I really have no idea on how to do it!

Ideally After advice on how to set the camera up - how to adjust the settings, if that makes sense?

Apologies for the stupid question!

I really depends just how long you want to go, any thing under 30 seconds and you should be able to do it in shutter priority, aperture priority or full manual, however if you want or need to exceed 30 seconds your be needing to use bulb mode...for which you'll either have a dedicated B on the mode dial or when I'm manual you get to 30 seconds and then the next shutter speed will be bulb after that, now in bulb you'll really need a cable release/trigger

Hi there thanks for the advice - video a great help too.

If you want a longer exposure than 30 seconds (i.e using bulb mode) and don't have a remote trigger, the elastic band and rubber trick works quite well. Put the band over the grip, once the shot is set up set a 10 second timer to start when you place the rubber under the band onto the shutter button. Leave it on as long as you want. Instead of just removing the rubber to stop the shot put the lens cap on first so that you don't get any shake.

Yes this is true but it is far from the ideal way doing things :(

Agreed but it's good to give it a try and would get the desired effect. Was just reading about people attaching white paper plates onto their flashes to bounce the light.
