Sony a350 memory card problems

Hi all, I'm new to this. When inserting my memory card the camera crashes. As in, won't switch on or respond to anything. I've got 2 memory cards and the problem happens with both. I'm presuming the issue is with the camera. Has anyone else had any issues like this??

Hi Nina and welcome to TP,

Can I clarify, bearing in mind I don't have a Sony, are you saying that you are inserting the SD whilst the camera is turned? As your post seems to be saying it as well as "it won't turn on".

So , FWIW both my canon and Olympus cameras will only accept insertion of memory cards whilst turned off! Well, at least that is what I do

Therefore, what does your manual say.......and please clarify exactly what you are doing

Have the cards been used in something else, there may be something left on there, or unexpected file structure. If the card can be seen in a computer card reader, you could format it there (right click on the folder showing it for the option) then when you put it in the camera first thing to do is format again there.
Cameras can be somewhat pernickety and won't work with some makes at least not reliably.
Also try to establish the type of card is definitely compatible, some large capacity modern cards can't be used by older cameras, which might only recognise (e.g.) 32GB
