I've had an a330 for the past 3 years, and it has started to fall apart. I'm at the point of wanting to buy another lens and flash to improve my photos, but am not really sure if I should stay with sony or jump ship to a nikon D90 or D7000.

Any views?

I had a Sony A300 and decided to upgrade and did to a A550 six months ago. Mainly because I had a set of lens and changing to something else would be quite expensive. As a camera choice I was happy; the Sony is a very good camera, better than the A300 in most ways.

However all my mates had or moved to Canon so I have just [last week] upgraded again to a Canon 7D as well - only 6 months after buying the A550. It allows us to share the very expensive lens.

It is not cheap to move when you have made an investment in lenses and other extras so beware. The quality of straight forward photos is no better with the 7D. The main difference is that there are more options [just] for creative work and it is a bit sharper at higher iso. But was it worth the substantial new investment.........................

I am now selling my A550 and lens on Amazon to pay back some of the money.

Don't know if that helps.

Try the sony a580. It has the same sensor as the Nikon D7000 and is half the price. Surprised the a330 is dropping to bits. The a350 I have seems to be quite sturdy. There's also the A55 and upcoming A77 to have a look at. And the cheaper A35. D90 is a bit long in the tooth now. D7000 or the cheaper D5100 is better. But I think the latter doesn't have an in body AF motor which restricts your lens choice a bit more.

If you move to nikon remember you won't have in body IS. You'll have to pay for it repeatedly in each lens you buy. But if you have friends with decent lenses for nikon then it is worth considering as borrowing is much cheaper than buying
