Yes
Will it work with my Sony A100?

I have read many reviews, and the price is very reasonable, but how easy is it to use?
Do I have to get within a foot for a Macro shot?

Does anyone have this lens, and can share information? Can any of Yall' share some
sample pictures taken with this lens?

I have one. I don't like it that much. The chromatic aberration is dreadful. I used it on one trip out and it's basically never been used since.

It's light and small which is its only advantage. Any sunlight falling at certain angles gives a massive purple tinge.

my mum uses one and ive never seen it do CA at all :s

but if u want todo closeup macro AND everyday shooting on one lens its the right focal length, but for insects a longer lens would be better

it will work on you a100

Thanks, at least I know it works, and if your Mum uses it that is high praise.

To srichards, thanks for your comments. Two of those shots looked good to me,
the flower really looked nice.

Anyone else? I do value Yall's opinions, some others would help.

I'd look for a used plastic fantastic Cosina 100/3.5. Will cost you less than £100 and will be more useful for macro IMO.

That's interesting, I'll research that lens.

what sort of macro shots you looking for? 30mm is very short if considering creepy crawlies

I know very little, so I don't really have a preference, I am onsidering this lens as learning situation.

nearly all macro lenses are good, but you also need to think about what working distance you need, and if you would like to use it for something else other than pure macro

the 30mm is a fine lens and would make a good walk about lens, its just the working distance is very close.

Did you take these pictures with the Lens I am asking about? They look very nice to me.
I did yes.

You could also consider a minolta 50mm 2.8 macro @£70-£150 dependant on version and condition. It's very sharp and will give you a little more working distance.

The Minolta 100 2.8 can be had for as little as £200 and macro lenses dont get much better better than that!

The plastic consina mentioned above is very sharp but poor build quality and I think only does 1:2 macro and not 1:1 like the sony 30mm and the two I mention above.

yeah ive got a cosina, and opticaly its fine, but you will actually laugh at the build quality. cheap plastic glass and gears
and yes its 1:2 without a add on lens, think u need +5 diaopter, +4 seemed slightly short of 1:1
