Yes
(But not always)

Imagine you had Disney's budget and Annie L in da house. You might be surprised if all she used was a single light in a brolly (plus a little something for the smoke, obvs).

First shoot shows a pretty complex setup, second not so much. Plus some plausible guesses at how Jill Greenberg and Dave Hill get their signature looks.

when they went to Nigeria, they carted THIRTEEN profoto battery packs. Used one.

You mean like I'd carry a spare camera ;)

You never know, they might have needed 8 and if 6 had broken they would have been stuffed....

That is also a serious amount of editing going on but still very cool.

Reminds me of Kelly Kline http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvIwZhKveUo
That to me was more of an advertisment... What an odd way of shooting, and what a odd attitude. If your client is booking a shoot, they need to make themselves available for the shoot. I'm sorry, but quadrupling your gear and shooting rapid succession shots, on 4 cameras simultaneously is machine gun shooting gone mad

You know, if I was getting punched in the face until the photographer got the shot then I'd want them to have 400 cameras....

You understand the cameras aren't shooting simultaneously, right? There are a number of ways to nail this shot - looks like Kelly has chosen the one that involves the least facial damage. Which is always good.

Your entitled to your own opinion even if its stupid

I would like to see you get the same shot as quick and without any brain damage to the client.

Some of these shoots are inspirational:)
It's good for everyone, beginner or seasoned pro, to see how other people tackle 'challenging' shoots - and how the top pros rely on their lighting and photography skills rather than on PP

Had she said "i want to prevent brain damage" I would agree with you.

:bonk:

Would you like to come shoot with me if I punch you in the face maybe your can remote operate the camera just as I make contact easy peasy.

Word of advice, don't follow the links to Peter Hurley's youtube vid on headshots. He may be in demand, but he sure is annoying... and dumb.
