A little while ago we ordered some vinyl address numbers for our bins. They were in an envelope, and they fitted through the letters box easily. On the front of envelope were the words printed in bold PLEASE DO NOT BEND. The envelope had been folded in half, with a sharp crease. Someone had obviously done it, for a laugh. There was no harm done, as I was able to remove the crease out, after I stuck the numbers on the bins.

The reason I remembered this again, is because I am thinking of sending some film away. If the words DO NOT BEND, are on the package, they may get damaged on purpose. I know people will say, why would anyone do that on purpose? The missus trusts everyone, and she would always say "why would they do that?" . You know, the kind of people who do the opposite, just for the hell of it. Please do not touch the display, so they go out of their way to touch it. Please keep doors closed, so they open them on purpose. Please keep off the grass, so they go out of their way to walk on it.

I will try and find a place to drop off, and pick up my film.

The classic was back in the days of ,5.25 inch floppy discs. Someone mailed them in a reinforced envelope and added a sticker that read 'floppy discs do not bend'. They arrived at the other end folded and with a hand written addition 'oh, yes they do!'

Yep, they are the people I mean, smart a**es. ;)

Back it the '90's, I saw a PC motherboard that was sent to someone mail order with "DO NOT BEND" on the box.
It had been folded in two and stuffed through the letter box.

Trouble is, items pass through many hands, you have no idea where it happened.

That was one of reasons I built a darkroom and developed my own B&W and transparencies years ago.

Yes, OK. Well lets see how my first roll after 40 years turns out. If it looks OK, and if it gives me that magical feel, I just might do my own. ;)

Just stick it in a Jiffy bag and don't worry about it. For extra protection, you can put it back in the plastic container it came in, which is pretty tough. The width of the bare cassette strictly takes you over the limit for a letter, anyway, so it will count as a 'small package'. I usually send off 2 or 3 at a time, with tracked postage. I use FilmDev:

Thanks for the link. Reading up them now. (y)

I can remember when you used to get 'free' mailer envelopes for various film & print companies, they were quite tough but offered little protection for their contents. In all my years of sending off 35mm & APS (my wife loved APS) we never had a film damaged in transit......

Had many things damaged, and gone missing over the years. I suppose it all depends on what hands items pass through, sometimes that could simply be, clumsy forgetful, thoughtless, or even dishonest. At the moment Amazon deliveries have been pretty good, when problems have arisen, they have put things right.
