Hey,

I'm soon to make my first flash purchase (a 430ex ii) so I'll need some equipment for it. I've been reading the strobist blog and have been learning a lot from it. They have a list of recommended things to get you started, which is what I'm now planning to buy, but wanted to run the list through everyone here to make sure I'm getting the correct sized pieces and for any other advice you have!

So my current list is:

A Light stand

A shoot through umbrella

Hot shoe adapter

sync cord

And for the umbrella swivels I found one on amazon and through searching for advice here, i saw this one recommended also. Is one much better than the other?

Should this all fit together correctly?
Is there anything else you would recommend that I add to this?

Thanks,

Andy

The ebay one (which I have) has a coldshoe so you can just slip the flash onto that and lock it with the 430's locking mechanism. Its not the greatest design as you sometimes need to adjust the little thumbscrew at the side.

The other one looks like you would need to attach the 430s footplate then screw that to the spigot which is probably more secure but more of a faff I would say.

Hey,

I actually have one of the 5 in 1 reflectors, I should have mentioned that!! So one less things to buy.

As for the triggers, won't they limit my sync speed by much?

ok, it sounds like i should go for the ebay one. Thanks for that.

Thanks again

Hi

Ok I seem to have messed up as on end of the cord doesn't fit the hot shoes.
Doh!

would this cord connect them correctly?

Thanks

After looking at different options, it seems wireless is the best way to go.
And it seems the yongnuo 603's are a good place to start, recommended from a few different threads, and Rob L.

Thanks guys
