Debated whether should go here or lighting forum .

Anyway, I do a lot of flower photography of which I am generally happy.
However one site that I really admire is Mandy Disher and I cannot decide how she creates the effects.

For example on the following link all the photos are exceptionally ' bright' but still maintain detail.

I've tried over exposing slightly but can never keep the finer detail.
I do most photography outside in their natural environment so is this the problem?

I am also curious how the background is done as I am not convinced they are all natural.

These here also have an interesting painting/drawn appearance.

Although I think these may be done using layers and textures?

I don't want to wholly replicate these photos but I would love to know how they are done so if anyone can help that would be great!
I guess flash may come in to it somewhere which is my nemesis!

Just my 'take' as I see it.

She possibly/likely has used HDR with controlled lighting. As for the various backgrounds, I agree they look like an added background.

I bow my head in shame there :p
Thank you very much though as they are very useful and interesting.

Yes, I guess the 'bright' images I mentioned probably are HDR, although very subtle, as one of the articles mentioned Photomatix Pro.

Need to brush up on my Photoshop skills.
I've always been of the nature, if I can't do it in camera, I don't do it, but it seems most real standout images have been processed beyond standard sharpening anyway!
Just don't talk to me about layers!
Bit like flash for me......
