Some Filter Questions (not UV, for a change!)

Couple of quick filter qyuestions...

I'm after some ND filters to start having a play with and have been looking at getting this Tiffen set.
Are they any good? Please bear in mind that I'm an enthusiastic amateur, and only a beginner at that, so forking out hundreds for pro quality filters isn't really something I want to do.

I'd also like to get a circular polarising filter. However, all of my lenses rotate at the front when focussing which from what I've read is going to cause me problems.
I've done a search and can't find much about this so I was wondering how to get around this.

Tiffen filters have a very good reputation, so they should be OK
As for the CPl, if you have manual focus available on your lenses, then compose the shot, switch to manual so the focus stays the same and carefully turn the polariser until you achieve the desired effect.
 
Thanks Trevor, that was what I thought the answer might be. I guess I was just hoping for a less fiddely solution.
 
Jim, whilst you may not want to fork out masses, have a look at the Cokin P system. You have a ring that screws onto you lens, then a holder attaches to it. The filters are square and slot into the holder. The bonus is that you can also use ND grads for correctly exposing the sky against a landscape, and it also means instead of loads of the same filters in different sizes, you buy a selection of inexpensive adaptor rings.

I am a great believer in the Lee system, but it's pricy. Their web site is worth looking at.
 
Thanks for all the replies. The Lee and Cokin setups both look good (will check that eBay link later, blocked at work :().
They both look like they'll suffer the same problem though as (if I'm reading this correctly) they both connect via an adaptor ring which screws into the front of the lens, which is the bit that rotates while focussing.
