My parents moved up to Scotland a few months ago to work as wardens on a large (and utterly beautiful) holiday park, and when the wife and I visited last month I took the opportunity to take some shots, and got some cracking sunsets.

As it was my mums birthday, I got one of the pics printed at 18x12 and framed it for her...I was extremely happy at the result as it looks much better as a large print than it does at 800pixels on screen! I'm so made up as she absolutely adores it and last night phoned me up to ask if I can do another 3 prints!!! Woohoo!

Now I know its not going to make me rich or anything and i've had a look around and it seems the going rate for prints that size seems be about £25. Seeing as these prints are for people my parents work with and they are the first ones they have had from me (i'm just going to treat it as one order as all prints will be sent to the same address), i feel a bit awkward about charging £75, but was thinking more along the lines of £50 for the 3, do you think that is reasonable?

I have to phone my mum back with a price this afternoon, and will explain that I would "normally" charge £25 each, so they are getting them for a very good price! I even feel cheeky saying that!

I'll get a pic of how it looks framed and post it up later!!

This is so exciting!!! :D

thanks! so £50 is ok even if they aren't mounted in anyway (they will just get a tube of prints)?

To be honest I am not sure on charging just for a tube of prints but if it was me I would charge £10 a print but i though the £50 was for them framed sorry:embarrassed:

If it's for family I only charge what it costs me, even then I don't usually bother charging anything. Is she selling them on though? Not sure why she wants four copies of the same print, must have been good :D

£25 for a 18x12 unmounted / unframed print is cheap, I would be charging more than that. Charge what its worth not what you feel ok / not guilty about charging, people pay for quality. Their is a lot to be said about perceived value, if you don't value your work why should anyone else. there is also the old one if some one else sees your print and asks the person who you sold it to. who, where, how much and they tell them, then you quote a higher price you probably wont get the sale as that customer feels they are being charged more.

Set your prices, stick to them and also say custom work to order subject to a quote first.

No, they aren't for family (i'm not that tight!!!)...they are all for people they work with. :)

thanks for the advice, and I totally see your point, i'm just a bit unsure as it's my first time, i'm pretty sure i'll be more ruthless in the future!

:D I usually take £15 for an unmounted 18X12, bit more competitive than "art" prints though :)
