Does anyone know about licensing of products such as Aperture and Lightroom.

Does a single licence for these products allow the licence holder to run them on a 'main' machine plus a lappy? I use an imac but have just about everything replicated on a macbook for hols. I'm about to make a buying decision and the need for two licences, rather than one, could be a major factor.

Thanks

Lightroom installed on my main PC and my laptop with no problems. As far as I know, so far, both work and update without issues.;)

Don't know about the legalities but my opinion when using software is that if it's just me using it I'll happily install it on both the pc and the laptop. If the software allows you to install and register on both I doubt you'll have problem with Adobe phoning you up asking for more dosh.

IIRC Lightroom allows it, as Photoshop does. Not sure about Aperture.

Photoshop CS3 EULA

http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/eula/photoshopcs3.html

2.4 Portable or Home Computer Use. Subject to the important restrictions set forth in Section 2.5 below, the primary user of the Computer on which the Software is installed (“Primary User”) may install a second copy of the Software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable Computer or a Computer located at his or her home, provided that the Software on the portable or home Computer is not used at the same time as the Software on the primary Computer. You may be required to contact Adobe in order to make a second copy.

Same as above for Lightroom

Aperture is similar:

2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled
desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you. You may use the Apple Software and any third party digital photo content contained in or otherwise included with the Apple Software, on a royalty-free basis, to create your own original digital photo products, however, the third party content is provided as part of the Apple Software bundle and may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis.

Ive got Aperture installed on both my Macpro and MBP, the software will only work on 1 at once though, if i leave Aperture running on my Macpro and try and fire it up on my MBP it displays the splash screen, but then displays a license warning page stating this software is already running on a network attached computer and exits.

Thank for the informative replies.

So common sense applies. There's refreshing!

I think I'm leaning towards Aperture at the mo. I'll make the decision during my hols this week.

Thanks
