SOFTWARE FOR HORIZONS

Picasa3 has a straighten facility but as Chaz says most software lets you rotate an image.

Another approach maybe a cheap hotshoe spirit level:thinking:

What exactly do you mean by straightening horizons do you mean getting them level or is the horizon curved (distortion)?

I am refering to getting them level. Its not that I have many pics with unlevel horizons, but on the few that I have it would be useful to have that option available.
It is dissappointing that Canon do not have this in their own software, as it would appear from what others have stated nearly every other software does have it.

I don't use DPP but as you say most other software will do it, it's a fairly common ajustment so I'm a little supprised it won't do it, seems a fairly large omission for serious users.

What about downloading gimp? That's free and although its clunkier than Photoshop but is quite powerful especially for how much it costs i.e nothing.

And HERES how to do it ;)

I think it's going to be the only free solution.

My advice is to 'invest' in Photoshop elements - Out of interest what are you using now for everything else?

No!

It still can't do this after all the years people have been asking/wishing for it

It is bad that Canon have not added this function, if as most folk state, that nearly all other software has it. Seems like a petition is in order to send to Canon, as I am sure there must be plenty of DPP users out there.

I will have a look at gimp, thanks.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.

Thanks.
I mainly use Canon's own DPP, occasionaly use an old version of Paint Shop Pro and Raw Therapie.
On the verge of purchasing Photomatix, having played around with the trial version (will be submitting a question later on another thread re usage!).
I have noticed that a lot of people seem to have some version of Photoshop, and it is at the back of my mind to purchase a version at some stage. Have read several threads that seem to suggest that most software perform similar tasks, therefore was reluctant to invest in same.

Picasa3 - free download, click on your picture to open it in the edit pane, click on straighten and move a slider to rotate the picture. It even has a grid to help you get the horizon straight.

(The straighten button has been dimmed in this screenshot)
