I've managed to pick up a couple of Interfit EXD200 studio lights for not much money and want to get a softbox to go with them. The setup will be just for fun, doing family shots and I'll be setting it all up in my garage. It's not too bad a size with around 20' x 20' to play with but the ceiling height is only about 7'. What size softbox would you recommend going for? I was thinking of a 48" octagon box but will this be too big for the height of the room?

Thanks

Way too big.
Bearing in mind that typically, a softbox is/should be used in a position that mimics natural light, i.e. frontal and high, with a 7' high ceiling the largest practicable size will be something like 1 metre if your subjects are standing.

I don't know whether it helps or not, but if your flash heads take the standard S-fit accessories (not all Interfit heads do) then this may be of interest https://www.lencarta.com/85x85-chiaro-square-softbox - our 85cm square softbox at half normal price, to clear.

OK, I didn't know that. Flash heads branded with the Interfit name are made by various suppliers and have various fittings, I don't keep up to date with which is which.
