I'm looking to buy a fairly cheap softbox which I can use with s stand hot shoe flash.
I have been looking at the westcott range, however my question is:
Can they all be used with flashes and do I need any specific adapters?

Regards
Ross

The Apollo can - they just use a standard brolly adapter, although you can also modify the adapter slightly to get more tilt. They fire "into" the softbox and reflect back, rather than firing through like a "normal" one does (i.e. the flash goes in facing backwards)

There's also plenty of alternatives/clones - personally I went for the Phottix version.

Theres a 40x40 with bracket on ebay for £22 i think they looked ok for the money and all you need then is a stand and flash and away you go theres also 60x60 ones too but they are slightly more expensive. Sorry i cant link to them as im on my mobile.

I've seen a Westcott 28" at premier ink for £120 which includes stand and adapter.
This is a reflective type. Are there any disadvantages with this?

Certainly does look good value for money.

Think it's down to either this or the westcott.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

The Ezy Up has the great advantage of being able to tilt completely over. The Westcott does not because of the design. I have ordered the Ezy Up one.

Decided against the westcott now for the points previous mentioned. Plus once its setup the only way to change settings is to remove the front diffusion panel.

Also considering the lastolite Ezybox in a 30"x30" size as this has the advantage of having access to the flash. Having said that the Ezyup is half the price.....
