Ok,
As there is some movement in my photobusiness ( its on a side to my full employment) Im looking on getting 'proper' softboxes.

I was looking on softboxes and octa boxes from Lencarta- need to go and see other makers, to replace my cheap ones ...
Still havent decided if I need 2 of those...I think 2 is always better than one ;)

I have light stands, and will be using flashguns.
At the moment, I have sb900 and younguo 460 ( I think ) so am lloking for a way to trigger those from camera - for some reason 460II does not always triigers...so remote triggers would be easier/safer to use.

All of that should make me quite portable.

Can you please advise me on softboxes and triggers ?
I do have umbrella so could safe few ££ and use one umbrella and one softbox (?)
Is Lencarta good way to go ?

thanks for all help and advice.
Bastic

My opinion FWIW is that the most useful all round combination is one softbox and one umbrella. It's versatile.

I'm in China and I've just got back from an alhololic dinner with the boss of the factory that makes Lencarta, Bowens and most other softboxes - very different prices, same factory...

As for triggers, get the Yongnu - I can't spell it sober, let alone now, but it's first class and by far the largest make in China - it's sold by junk fleabay sellers in the UK but that doesn't make it a junk product:)

Good.
But octabox or soft box?

OK decided to go for octa...I think 120cm would do and should be fine for group of 3.

Well I did have a laugh at the price of Bowens egg crates for their octobox. £589!!!!! Does make you wonder what the difference is when Lencartas are £30! Stretching the brand name a bit far I think!

I have a 120cm Lencarta octa box. Get the folding one though, makes life so much easier and well worth the extra!!

I use Yongnuo RF603 triggers too.

It needs to be folding one as it needs to be part of portable kit;)

Would order all parts now, but my bank stopped my card as my details were stolen...had long weekend with no money to spend...

Bastic - if you want a compact option go for a Westcott Apollo or the cheaper copies (I think Phottix does one called the easy-up). Folds up like a brolly and is very light. I use the 28" version with a single SB700 or SB800 with no issues....

If you want soft boxes for speedlites this is the way to go in my opinion.

Putting a speedlite in a normal front firing box, especially a large one, is only doing half a job as the light is very directional, and unable to spread evenly all around the front surface that you'd normally get when you put a studio strobe in them. The Westcott type ones are reverse firing so the light is far more even as its bounced off the back of the box first thus spreading the light more.

Thanks guys.

Would 28" be enough for group of 3 ?
Are westcott supplied with speed light brackets?

Just read few reviews of Apollo orb and people say its really fragile....
So soft box might be better if they are not as fragile..can you tilt those?
You can't tilt orb so would have to look in to a clamp and boom to attach it to light stand... at same time not sure if my light stands would hold it....
