Yes
Some of the wooden soffits around our garage are starting to rot, although the fascia seems sound still. From those in the know

1) Is it possible to replace only the soffits with upvc equivalents or is this not recommended

2) If I have to go for full replacement soffits + fascia any ball park figure per m I would be looking at to have this done

Any advice much appreciated

It'll depend very much on the size of the soffits and how sound the timber they're affixing to is. You can mix/match PVC of course, but it'll just generally look a bit crap.

If your fascias are okay, you could just renew in marine ply and paint the lot?

Give the barge boards/fascia's a good check over to make sure they aren't rotting & as Ian says, if they're sound fix marine ply over the existing strips.
If you feel the fascia's are starting to soften, you might as well replace it all. Get a couple of local firms to give you a quote anyway, it might save a lot of messing.

The materials aren't that expensive, it's the scaffolding that bumps the price up. I had quotes of up to £2k to do the barge boards and soffits in upvc on a three bed semi, about 10 years back. The builder who was doing a loft extension for us already had scaffolding up and asked if wanted the fascias and soffits done while he was doing the other extension work. Cost us just £300 extra.

Ps if you do go ahead, make sure the workman strip off all the old fascias and soffits first, there are cowboy companies that will just slap upvc straight over the rotten timber.

Had a quote about a month ago for soffits, facia boards, gutter and downpipes on a 2 bed detached bungalow (mils) and it was £1900.

Find a local guy to do it rather than one of the nationals who charge the earth to pay for the offices and TV adverts , the plastics are unbelievably cheap to buy , a £1900 quote is probably £1500 profit , especially on a bungalow as they wouldn't need a scaffold tower

Just be very careful who you pick , I followed a very professional looking van , new , signwritten , 0800 number , it never occurred to me they were travellers until I saw them pull onto a field full of caravans

As it's your garage, there won't need to be any scaffolding etc, so should be cheaper - could you not do it yourself ? it really is (especially on a garage, so no height) dead easy...

I'm afraid I'm not that handy and would probably look a right dogs dinner if I had a go [emoji1]

Where abouts in country are you? I've been in the industry 25 years! Could easily advise you.....

Have asbestos badges and whatever

Yeah I realise that everyone's not great at diy (and of course you just might not fancy it), but tbh this would be a relatively straightforward job. You would definitely need an extra pair of hands at certain times, but if you can cut a straight line with a saw I think you could manage it. It'd be a lot easier too, seeing as how you're working on a bungalow and not working at any great height. Looks like Wickes stock everything you'd need. I think the hardest part would actually be removing the old fascias and/or soffits. ;)
