There seems to be an increasing use of the word lens on this forum and on the web in general.

Is it just an alternative spelling of a good old fashion lens or meant to be the plural (lenses) or is a new improved lens for the digital age????????????????????????

I think it's the American version of Lens that has become a common way of spelling it here.

lens as opposed to lens does seem to irk some people (not just on this forum either).
I would suggest that the true spelling is lens. But I'm not about to get into a huge argument about it!

There are too many other thing to worry about in this life to get upset about an extra "e"

cheers

Sorry, just done a better search and this subject has been done to death in the past.

I must remember to search beyond the first page of results :bonk:

 I have no problem with either but I'm not a true(cough cough) pro and my spelling and grammar are poor too.

From Wickipedia

"The variant spelling lens is sometimes seen. While it is listed as an alternative spelling in some dictionaries, most mainstream dictionaries do not list it as acceptable"

It really doesn`t matter that much...........:)

Common? I've only seen it spelt wrongly like "lens" on this forum! And rarely at that! I'm not so sure it could be described as a common way of spelling!

It matters to some of us and needs to be nipped in the bud. Anyone using the word lens in a post should receive an instant ban; d-oh :D

Is this a photography forum or some sort of forum for the educated amongst us:thinking:

Bak to skool for me then:lol:

What about "glass"? Very common on US sites.

Far be it for me to tell the Mods what to do but might I politely suggest that one of them uses the swear filter to change "lens" to "lens" - should be easy enough to do so without affecting "lenses".

IIRC, the extra e turned up as a typo in one edition of an American dictionary (? Websters Merriam?) and has been cropping up far too often.

That ^ makes sense, well done Nod, except it might mess up the spelling of Lenses?

Correct spelling is never a waste of time, pointing out incorrect spelling is never a waste of time.

This pedantry is getting really tiresome...:cuckoo:

Are we really this bored...?

Not bored, just pedantic!

Just checked on a forum where I can play with the swear filter and (with the right boxes ticked), lenses is unaffected.

What about pointing out incorrect capitalisation of letters ? Is that a waste of time ?

Well it was just intended for emphasis but you have a point.
