Yes
Looking to buy another D200, however do I wait for The D300 to arrive on the scene and watch D200 prices fall? Or do you think there going to stay at about the same price for a while?

Can't really justify buying a D300. I'm happy with my works which are being produced with my eyes plus D200 and I'm purposfly not going to go out to take a ganders at The D300 as I'm worried about impulses and the wallet!! Even thought about a D2x but tbh can't really justify one of those either, unless someone gave me the option of upgrading for nothing! I'm just more than happy with the quality of works being produced with The D200. Not after more or less but just the same!

So whats your opinion on my situation?

Thanks for your help!

Ed :)

Wait. The D200 will only ever stay at the same price, or it will fall. Falling is more likely. If it does fall, you save yourself money. If it doesn't you loose nothing. It is exactly what I plan on doing. I'm going from a D50 to a Dx00, and the 200 at this stage seems a large enough jump in performance at a lower cost.

Same dilemma for me, I'm starting to outgrow my D50 and would love to jump to a D300, but if the D200 prices fall I may be tempted by that.

If you shoot low ISO's the D200 is more than capable so personally I would save and plump for that. However, the promised improved higher ISO performance of the D300 is a must if you find yourself shooting ISO 800+. Weigh it up to your actual shooting methods and decide from there.

King.

little OT chaps, is the D200 and D300 full frame or is it still a crop?

Thanks

Both crop. Only the D3 will be fullframe.

Indeed.

Thing is, is the higher ISO performance etc worth the possible £500 price gap between the D200 and D300? £500 is essentially a rather nice lens! I dont know what Im gonna do TBH. The D200 is a lovely camera, But I would like to future proof myself a little when upgrading...

From what I can tell on the Nikon boards, it looks like the D300 is only offering an extra stop or so in terms of ISO.

The big difference is the new AF system, which is supposed to be remarkable but that's not compelling unless you do sports or whatever. D200 AF is just fine for most normal purposes. The rest is just feature improvements (better LCD, live view, slighly larger sensor etc)

The D3 is a huge jump in capability, especially in terms of high-ISO performance, but it's stupidly expensive.

I think it makes a lot of sense to go for a D200 as prices drop. It's a great camera (I have one) and I can recommend it highly.

Its not though is it! It is considerably less than the 1Ds MkII / III. Which in fact makes it a huge competitor in the Professional segment!

I'm guessing he wants two bodies...

Ian T is right! :)

I used to have 2x D100's, one as a backup body but sold the backup D100 and looking to replace it with aother D200!

Thanks for all your input, thats excellent! I wonder how high ISOs on the D300 compare, is it going to be "much" better?! For the type of work I do, I never really shoot above 800iso.

Thanks for the response and advice!

Went for another D200! Brand New, I picked The body up for £790.95! Quite pleased!

I seem to always prefer to buy dslr bodies new as there is no history behind it, except from the day you buy! If that sorta makes sense..

Muchos again all...

Ed :)
