So, the RED SCARLET comes in at under $10k, and shoots 4K up to 25 fps, and 120fps at 1K. It can even shoot 5K stills ( 13MP) @ 12fps. Ships in canon mount Dec 1st

Canon c300 is $20k list, 1080p only. 4:2:2. Ships Jan 2012.

Some very nice new canon cinema lenses in both canon and PL mount, but the primes in canon only.

Canon saying that they're also working on a 'DSLR geared towards filmmakers' seems bizarre too - why not build it in a big enough body to take a button based approach with real connectors instead?

Thoughts?

...Thoughts?

Not sure... still thinking Dave:lol:

On the face of it, exciting times- convergence of film/ stills, new lenses, new capabilities etc etc

However, peel away the gloss and has the game really changed? I'm not so sure but neither am I really close enough to film to say these days.
Are they really what that market segment ie high end was looking for? Aren't there better, more reliable cameras if you have that kind of money. Might be better renting an Arri?:D

I was kind of expecting something to rival the AF101 from Canon but maybe they are leaving that to Nikon:lol:

Still, I think it's a positive step on the whole from both companies - better than coming out with an 85mm macro, then a 60mm then a 40mm and presumably a 30mm in 2012- who an earth would think that was a great strategy when you've not got to grips with frame rates yet...;)

So, which one are you buying then?:D

ROFL.

RED won the 'camera sales' last night. And all the rental houses have got shed loads of PL glass already so don't really care about the canon glass....

I'll probably be buying a D400, and when I can afford it, a scarlet 2 in a couple years time. Modern high end photo practice is going to have a lot of video as well as stills.

I'm just looking forward to getting my hands on a NEX-VG20 in a couple of weeks so that I don't have to render off tape any more!

**** everything about capturing tape... I've spent way too much of my life capturing footage off Z1's....
