Yes
... But I'm stuck! I've imported some photos, and all it has loaded is the exif data, but no photos. What do I do next?

Copyed and pasted from SD card into a folder, then clicked Import in Lightroom and selected all the files. The files are all .CR2 from my Canon 450D.

I used the 'Import' button next to the export button. I have just removed all the photos and reimported them using the @Import from disk' option and it made no difference.

Cheers

I usually import photos straight into Lightroom via the card reader but there's no reason it shouldn't work importing them from an existing folder. Could you maybe post a screen print of the import dialogue box as you have it, not that I could think of anything you might have in there that would cause problems.

Its like Lightroom doesn't know what kind of Raw format the photos are. Do I need to install a add in or anything to match my camera?

Thinking about it, half the reason I've tried Lightroom is because I've been using Canon batch processor, rather than Canon Zoombrowser which I used to use, but it stopped working a few weeks ago. Does Lightroom rely on any of the Canon software?

Are they still on your card? If so, delete them from your computer and import again using lightroom. You may have done something that corrupted the files while importing them.

They are still on my card so I just tried that Andy and it produces the same results.

What version of Lightroom do you have ? v2.6 is the latest and maybe that lightroom can't read the image files properally with an older version. Affraid I can't remember which version started support for the 450

I just downloaded it from the Adobe website earlier, so its the latest 2.6 version and I tried 'update' and it was the latest version.

can you import any other files - even jpegs - so we know LR is working - looks like a corrupt install maybe

Lightroom is completely self-contained and doesn't need any other software to work. I've used it from V1.0 right up to the current 2.6 and have imported raw files from six different Canon cameras that I own and other raw files downloaded from the net. I have never seen anything like the problem here. I suggest reinstalling Lightroom.

As for Zoombrowser, it used to have Raw Image Task integrated into it but that was withdrawn over a year ago, I think with the release that accompanied the 50D. Now, if you want to use Canon's software to process raw files you need to install DPP. Zoombrowser can link out to DPP but I just go straight to DPP if I want to use that software.

It doesn't seam to work with jepgs either, I will try reinstalling it.

Cheers

I've tried reinstalling it, downloading it again and a few other things and it still doesn't work. :bang: I'm gona move to windows 7 soon, so I'll try again then :'(

possible that you have a corrupt colour-space. If you profiled the monitor, try the native sRGB profile

I agree it looks like it's not generating previews. You can always force it to do this, in Library mode, go Library and click on previews. You then have an option to generate previews. Do this on one image and see if it works. If it does the select All and run this again.

If this solves the problem check catalogue setting to ensure it's set to generate previews. It should do so by default but check.

Out of interest which camera do the raw files originate from? I'm assuming it's one supported by Lightroom?

What version of LR are you using? Example - support for the Canon 7D and G11 was only added in 2.6 which was released just before xmas. While LR comes with its own instance of ACR it's still ACR. Just check the version of LR you are using has the version ACR that supports your camera.
