In a precaution to protect my files, I've moved my image files from an old hard drive to a new one, I've tried pointing LR to the new drive but its not seeing them as the old files, it wants me to import them all as new files, I'm assuming that the catalogue is the problem but I cant for the life of me work out what to do for the best. any suggestions?
 
Is the old catalogue on the disk and have you tried opening that catalogue file in LR?
 
If you're going to move files do it (if its not too late) using LR to do it. That way you'll keep all your catalogue connections. If its too late and you're using windows the you could try swapping the nominal drive letter of the new disk to match the old one. Else you'll have to reattach the catalog to the files. Do this using the old library view in LR, it should tell you it struggles to find the file and ask you to reattach it
