Hi Guys,

The studio that I use has a paper seamless background system which unfortunately has some ripples/ridges in some of the rolls.

When I am editing these if they are small problems then the patch/heal/clone tool will usually fix it.

Apart from extracting the model and putting them onto a new background is there anyway to smooth out the background?

thanks in advance,

David

blow it out more with the lights aimed at the background. It's tricky if it's a creased paper backdrop, but as long as the rear lights are gobo'd from flaring into your camera, you should be alright.

Would applying a Gaussian blur to the background help?

You could try making a general selection around the subject, with a soft edge. Invert it and then apply the blur to the background.

Alternatively use a vinyl background. Doesn't tend to get creases but a lot more expensive

Can anyone else add to this, i used a vinyl background but now believe i had it the wrong way up...! It has an irregular pattern visible in the pictures but because i was shooting with one light it is then graduated so cloning and patching is a mare..!

I have tried a gaussian blur at 10.0 but it does not work as the pattern is still visible.

Any ideas...?
Mac
