Hi,

i own a canon 350d and sometimes when i use the flash it smokes from only taking one shot, and i can smell a burning smell similar to the smell of a scale electrix when used for a decent time ( you no what i mean ) normally i smell the burning before i see the smoke...

is this normal for a pop up flash to do this and what should i do if its not

Thanks for reading

dave

If it's under warranty return it immediately. It's not supposed to smoke or smell like that :)

I would imagine there is some form of residue on the flash blub thats burning everytime its fired, either that or the mounting of the bulb is melting due to the insulation not being properly installed.

Either way I would suggest you get it checked out.

In a word.. No.

 :naughty:

Return it - or bin it! Don't use it - other than as an excuse to upgrade

Im never going to use flash on my 350d...ever , Just buying some armour off ebay now:lol:

I seem to remember reading about this elsewhere. The owner was in the habit of cleaning his body with a silicone cloth - the sort that is used for car dashboards.

Some of the silicone had leached onto the lens of the flash, and was burning when the flash was fired.

If it were mine, I'd clean the flash scrupulously, then cycle the flash until the smell had gone - or the camera burst into flames.

It's kill or cure, but there is no way that your dealer could refuse a warranty claim if the flash is completely fried.

Or not:nuts:
