Hi!

I have my Canon 500D and a LowePro Slingshot 200AW for my lenses and bits.

I am now wanting a small case to take the camera in for when I won't want to be taking all the add ons such as filters/lenses etc. All I'd want is space for camera and the nifty fifty or 18-55 lens and spare memory cards/battery.

I have seen the LowePro Altus 120 for £15

What are your thoughts?
Any other recommendations/advice please?

Thanks

Thanks Michael - I agree but wanted something "as small as possible"

(Will also remove the "how much bl**dy stuff have you got?" kind of questions from SWMBO!!)

I like my Crumpler Messengerboy 3000 for a light pack. To give some indication of capacity it can fit:

*D90 w/ 17-55/2.8 and SB400 flash

or

*D90 w/ grip and Voigtlander 40/2 (pancake) and medium sized lens or SB400

There's also a front pocket for a few filters, spare battery and memory cards etc. I'd recommend visiting a decent camera store and trying some out.

I have a crumpler muffin top 3000 that I used when I had the 500d and a 50mm f/1.8 fits it perfectly you can even fit a 580ex2 flash over the top if you so wished at a stretch.

I did a review here so you can get an idea. It also fits the 500d in there with the canon 24-70 f/2.8L

I am looking for something that will hold the camera with the grip and the 24-70 on it somthing like a holster top loading thing.

I'm a big fan of the crumper range, have a look at the smallest 'muffin top' / 'messenger boy' ranges!

i have a lowepro rezo 120 that i had for my canon g10
i will try my 500D in it tomorrow and see what it fits like if you want
the dimensions are pretty much the same

The smallest and cheapest option for your 500d is the TLZ mini from Lowepro. I had mine for a whopping £11.29 from Amazon about a month a go including delivery. Looks like they are still available at that price.

Fits my 500d & kit lens like a glove. Space in the front for a battery & lens cloth (just!). Pretty well made and well padded inside. Flap opens outwards so useful for walking around. The strap isn't well padded, but you honestly won't need it for the weight of just the 500d & kit.

Can't be beaten for the price IMO. You won't find a more compact bag that does the job.

i have tried my 500D in the lowepro rezo 120 and it fits in there fine with the 18-55 kit lens
there is also room to put the nifty fifty in the bottom as well as room for a couple of batteries lens cloth memory cards etc
you could probably still get a couple of filters in the bottom or side pocket as well

Crumpler Pretty Bella half photo backpack is a nice size, and very useable

As above really, some of the Crumpler range are fantastic bags and well worth a look

I have a Lowepro Apex 100 AW, into which I can just stuff a Nikon D40 (about 500D size, I guess!?), fitted with either the kit lens or (at a push) a slightly longer zoom. There is a single divider in the bag, to the side of the lens barrel, into which you can cram a prime lens, or a small flash gun, or similar.

It has pockets in the interior of the lid and even has a built-in weather proof cover! Have a look at the pictures in this link (especially the second one) - they give you a better idea of the size than my description ;) ...

Build quality is surprisingly rugged, too .

My $0.02.

I've gone off camera bags that look like camera bags, so have just ordered a snapper duo from RedSnapper. Might be a bit big for what you need, but it's not going to scream 'steal me!!' to the local yuuf.

Thanks Guys!!- sorry I haven't replied until now...I work away and not back until now (even had to stay away another night due to the weather :()

<goes off to look at all options>
