Hi,

I'm interested in creating a shooting space in my spare room, but I have no idea about studio/lighting set up to start with. So please help!

It's quite a small room (2.3m x 2.7m x 2.8m high) with two big windows and I would like to shoot newborn babies and toddlers with my 24-70 2.8 and 50 1.4G.

I found a nice set up here; www.allthingsbaby.biz/?p=171
Is it possible for this room size? (without the sofa and drawers part of course)
If so what should I get for lighting and background stands/supports etc...?
I have researched a lot (maybe not enough) but so many brands, sizes and reviews and I still have no idea of a good set up for this size room.

My budget is £500 ex VAT but I can maybe ask my hubby to £1000 ;)

Thank you in advance.

That room is simply too small.

Given the heading "Small studio set up for baby photography” I have to disagree with Dean’s comment Amy.

Sure its not ideal for some of the more creative ideas but as a starting point which you are clearly at then its certainly adequate. Go for it girl.. My home studio is roughly the same size into which i have a 4 light setup and manage to shoot adult models. Again far from ideal but adequate.

Tight but do-able as Mark has proved. The example you show has one light; that's a good starting point. 500w would be way over- powering A couple of years ago I added a Lencarta 200w smart light to my collection which might suit you. It's a standard s type fit and is reasonably priced. To save floor space you might want to consider a Manfrotto auto pole. I use thses in my studio as I got fed up tripping over tripod legs and that's not in such a small studio lol.

I have subscribed to this thread with interest as baby no.2 is due tomorrow!!! What about using a few speedlights with various lighting modifiers? It means it's all a bit more portable.. and well within your budget..

Check this post out, some great shots from one speed light

PS. that looks like a 50" Westcott Apollo softbox in the link.. (your link, not mine)
