Slight problem with Lightroom 3

I store a lot of my photos on an external HDD, after I disconnect, then reconnect my HDD, Lightroom 3 is not "seeing" the photo's, the directory structure is all there, but all the individual directories have 0 next to them. I have to right click and "synchronise folder" and they come back, but surely I don't have to do this every time I disconnect and reconnect my HDD, I didn't have to do it in LR2.

Thanks for any help

Pete

In theory as soon as you connect your external hard drive, within a few seconds (maybe 10) lightroom should recognise it is now online and start to re populate all your folders.

If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you could try Right clicking on the Lightroom icon and selecting "Run as Administrator" from the context menu

That's exactly what used to happen in LR2.

I've got Vista, I'll give that a try, thanks Ian.

Thanks Ian, that's worked.

Well, I thought it had worked, but I think I've spotted what the problem is. It's because sometimes the external drive pops up as E: drive, and other times it pops up as F: drive.

So, i know this is more of a question for the computer section, but, when I plug in an external drive, can I tell the computer which letter I want the drive allocated to?

(Yes, assuming that letter is not already used).

I actually have my light room images and setup folder on the network so this can sometimes happen.

Brilliant! many thanks bigdeaks.

Odd though that I've only had this snag since moving to LR3.
