Slide or Negatives for scanning?

I use an epson 4490 to scan film... So far I've only done B&W negatives and quality is OK for the web (especially medium format), but not great.

Going to shoot some colour soon - so am I likely to get better quality scans from negative or slide film?

Scanning slide is in general more difficult than scanning film. Scanning colour is generally more difficult than scanning bw.

Scanning colour with Epson 4490 is generally... Well, let's just say I prefer sticking to bw. ;D
